Update your wardrobe with LACE & Mini JEAN JACKET

Update your Spring wardrobe with these new items:

Lace: Lace adds romance and a lighter feel to your Spring look. In the daytime, wear nude, white and pink lace with jeans for a more edgier look. In the evening, wear black lace with satins and solids for a sleek and sexy look.

Mini Cropped Jean Jacket: Add the mini jean jacket over softer fabrics like lace and silk to add dimension to your look. Don’t be afraid to play with different fabric weights. Do avoid wearing the jean jacket with jeans so you don’t end up looking outdated.

What to wear underneath SEE-THROUGH dresses or tops?

Now that Spring has arrived, you can see lots of sheer lace and chiffon items at the stores. You may love the design or print of the item but not particularly how it wears. “What exactly do you wear underneath this thing?”, you may ask yourself. Here are some suggestions:

1. Nudes work well underneath ANY colour because it blends easily with your natural skin tone. The end result will be the eye focusing on the colour and print of the item on the outside and not on your inner garments. (Unless thats the look you’re going for ;) )

2. Go for SEAMLESS TECHNOLOGY ! These items are specially manufactured to have no visible seams on the sides so it gives you smooth and sleek coverage. There are even some that have a high spandex content which will help tighten up  and tone your body in seconds! Try our new MAGIC BODY tank top and booty shorts. It’s made partly with bamboo for breathability.

In the slideshow below, we’ve included a variety of our one-piece seamless technology items. They work wonderfully underneath dresses to provide full body coverage without riding up or down throughout the day.

Why You Should Stay Away from those Small Sizes

Did you know that wearing the incorrect size can actually make you look bigger? Buying the wrong size is a very common fitting mistake. With every company having their own labelling systems, we don’t blame you. Sometimes you can walk into one store and fit into an XS while you can walk into the next and fit into a Medium! Don’t worry, you didn’t increase 2 sizes in the span of one shopping trip. We highly recommend that you don’t focus so much on what the label says and just buy the size that you can see is the most visually appealing for YOUR body. Here are some tips:

1. If you have never tried any items before from the particular company, ask their associates how their items fit. Does it fit true to size or smaller/bigger? Then go about finding the correct size.
2. Always look at the fit ALL across the body, the item should not fit smoothly only in one place and way too snug in another. When this happens, buy to fit the larger area and make adjustments accordingly. (See below for strapless items)
3. Don’t be afraid to spend money on tailoring. You will look amazing when you are wearing something that fits to your own body. Even inexpensive items can make good use of tailoring. When it has a tailored look to fit YOUR body, it can look EVEN better than that expensive item 3 or 4 times that price. So the money you spend on a little bit of tailoring may very well pay off.
4. Use “little helpers” like Lingerie Tape or Silicone Bra to give you that extra secure fit. (See below)

What Should I Look for when I Try on an Item?

In the pictures labelled INCORRECT FIT you can see several areas in which the item is not fitting properly. You should pay attention to these areas the next time you go clothes shopping:
  1. Zipper should be lying smoothly along the back. In the picture with the incorrect fit, you can see that the zipper is actually making a “wave” along the back because the fabric is being stretched both horizontally and vertically so it doesn’t allow the zipper to lay properly.
  2. The fabric should sit nicely on both sides of your hips giving you a nice hourglass figure. In the incorrect fit picture, you can literally see that the shape of the hips and waist is not smooth and looks “lumpy” because the item is just too tight. Because of the pulling of the fabric, the body actually ends up looking like it’s “spilling out” of the item and appears bigger than it really is.

This Strapless Style is Slipping Off, Should I Buy the Smaller Size?

One of the most common mistakes when buying a strapless item is to choose a smaller size just because you feel it’s slipping off. Of course, you should buy an item that hugs your body nicely and accentuates your natural curves but you should also pay special attention as to whether the item is fitting too tightly in some areas.

Your first instincts may be to choose a strapless item that fits snug around the bust area while ignoring the fit in the waist and hips. Most strapless items will never give you a super secure feeling because it just doesn’t have straps. If you buy it so tight that you can’t even breathe or move, the item will not flatter your body as it will most likely be “pulling” too much as seen in the photos above.

You should buy a size that fits your hips and waist. Also, make sure it’s not “pulling” too hard and the fabric is smooth around those areas. Then, make adjustments to your bust area accordingly with either a Padded Strapless Bra, BRA TAPE or the SILICONE BRA.

Lingerie tape will give you a secure fit quickly and discreetly. Apply some to the top of your bustline to keep your item in place. $12.50

The Silicone Bra is perfect for backless dresses and tube tops that need an extra “boost” in the bust area. It will help give you extra volume in the bust area to “fill out” that strapless item that seem to keep slipping off. Silicone technology allows the surface to adhere onto body surfaces without glue or straps. Just apply it onto a clean body surface and mould into shape.

It’s easy to take care of and can be worn many many times. Wash it gently with warm water to help maintain its sticky adhesive surface.

Available in A, B, C, D cups in Nude Color

We will do our part during Earth Hour

Saturday, March 26th:  830pm-930pm

We will be taking part in EARTH HOUR tomorrow from 830-930pm. It’s a global initiative to turn off the lights to fight climate change.  While the store is open to the public, we will turn off some of our “extra” interior lighting during this time.

Earth Hour began in Sydnesy, Australia in 2007 with over 2.2 million participants and spread worldwide in 2008 with over 50 million people in 35 different countries.

Fun Facts:

Did you know? All our green Mimi McQueen plastic bags are Bio-Degradable? These bags “self-destruct” from pressure and sunlight causing less waste to landfills.

Throughout the year both properties of Metropolis at Metrotown and Richmond Centre works hard to continue to do its part for the environment by executing programs that work to reduce the centre’s carbon footprint. All merchants follow in the thorough recycling programs by sorting and placing garbage in their respective recycling bins. The end goal is to achieve 0% waste.

Can everyone wear Stripes?

2011 Trends: Stripes & Nauticals

Yes! You may have heard you needed to stay away from stripes to avoid appearing “heavier”. Then how do you wear the latest trends like stripes and nauticals? You can definitely wear this look if you follow these simple rules.

- Skip stripes that are laid out horizontally as it will draw the eye from left to right of your frame bringing attention to your width.

- Skip thick stripes as bold thick colour panels along the body will make you appear larger.

- Skip thick stripe combinations with white. White is bright and when contrasting against other  colours, it tends to make make the body appear fuller.

- DO TRY: THIN STRIPES laid out DIAGONALLY

- DO TRY: Stripe combinations with BLACK instead of white.
